About The Drums

First and foremost the drums on this site were Made to Be Played.

All the Djembe's and Ashiko's are finished with natural oils to enhance the beauty of the wood. Synthetic stains or varnishes are not used on these drums unless specifically indicated.

About The Djembe's

  • All the djembe shells were hand carved in Africa,
    orignating from Guinea, Mali, Senegal and Ivroy Coast.
  • Wood Types are mostly Lenke, Hare`, Kadhi or Akajou
  • Bearing edge has been leveled and rounded.
  • Shells are oiled using linseed or tung oil.
  • Heads are African goat skins.
  • Rings are custom made to fit each shell individually.
  • All rope used is specifically manufactured for drum making.
  • Head Diameters are measured across the outside of the bearing edge and do not include the ring or rope.
  • Weight is given in pounds

About The Ashikos'

All of the available Ashikos are stave constructed shells.

  • All the hand carved shells are from Ghana made from Tweneboa.
  • All the stave Ashikos' were built here at home.
  • Bearing edge has been leveled and rounded.
  • Shells have been sanded and refinished using linseed or tung oil.
  • Heads are African cow, calf or goat skin.
  • Rings are custom made to fit each shell individually.
  • All rope used is specifically manufactured for drum making.
  • Head Diameters are measured across the outside of the bearing edge and do not include the ring or rope.
